Best Student Paper Award
In this inaugural year, the Peter Ladefoged prize, which is to be awarded at each ICPhS for the best paper by a student participant, went to Laura Herbst
for her study on
German 5-year-olds' intonational marking of information status.
Peter Ladefoged was a scholar who placed great importance on student training.
He supported many generations of students over more than five decades.
Laura Herbst is a PhD student at the
Max-Planck-Institut for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen.
The focus of her research is on phonological and phonetic aspects of first language acquisition, in particular intonation.
